Lucky Girl Spice

Lucky Girl Spice is a condiment brand specializing in chili oil products made with 100% avocado oil. We prioritize creating balance in our bodies by eating nourishing foods. Our blend of peppers and spices draws on our Sichuan roots, where super spicy foods help our bodies combat the region’s humid climate. We believe healthy eating does not have to come at the expense of flavor and strive to create products that are easy to use and make any meal taste even better

I get a lot of inspiration and insight into my community’s preferences from perusing the shelves of local grocery stores. During the years of 2021-2024, after I'd moved back home to San Francisco,  I noticed a gap in the chili oil market that consistently went unfulfilled. While brands like Fly by Jing, Momofuku, and MamaTeavs have paved the way to introduce American tastebuds to the world of Eastern-style spicy oil condiments, none of the shelves I frequented provided any made without seed oils — a hot topic online sprouting tons of derision over their true effect on our bodies.  Having just come from LA, the capital of health-conscious food, I knew there would be demand for a chili oil made with avocado oil regardless of the truth. Anecdotally, I’ve dealt with cystic acne for some time, and avocado oil does not cause flare-ups, while many seed oils do.

It just so happens my mom is an incredible cook. Together, we developed her personal recipe into something scalable and even more delicious. Like many immigrant parents, she has made difficult decisions and sacrifices to ensure I can pursue my dreams. Whether or not people would take to the product, I knew I had to bottle up just a bit of my mom’s genius to share with the world. So, I carried out the steps to take our product from prototype to fully legalized, and lab-approved consumer packaged good.

Describing anything as ‘lucky’ has long been a tradition in Chinese marketing. In creating LGS, i combined this naming convention with a TikTok-driven trend titled, ‘lucky girl syndrome,’ where countless women have shared the times their positive, “I’m so lucky” mindset actually manifested real-life lucky situations. Unknowingly, I’ve always carried this concept for myself, and among the list of names I presented to my mom, this was her favorite.

My approach to visually branding our products started with defining our target audience and having them reflected in every part of what we do. Those who embody what it means to be a Lucky Girl will likely appreciate our glossy bubbly letters, sparkle motifs, and cutie pepper symbol.

Since our official launch on July 7, 2025, we’ve sold over 1000 units, gotten into 15 retail location across 8 cities (San Francisco, Oakland, Costa Mesa, Puyallup, Tulsa, Nashville, New York City, and Vancouver), hosted 2 corporate tastings at Salesforce Tower, and received a wonderful write up from the San Francisco Standard.
