Mike Kelley Retrospective at Hauser & Wirth
KandorCon 2000 included architectural students as live elements of the exhibit -- designing and sculpting paper buildings at all hours of display. We would slowly populate a blank plinth with towering forms inspired by the original Superman comics. By the end of the 3-month show, we had completed a city. The models were made of white foam core, white museum board, and glue. Computer use was prohibited. Over the course of 3 months, I designed and built 6 models. At the end of the show, 5 of my 6 models were selected to be cast in bronze by the Kelley foundation and found permanent homes in Berlin.
After show completion, I was commissioned by Hauser & Wirth to build scaled models of their galleries around the world.
